Fillings  

Dental fillings are a common dental procedure used to restore teeth damaged by decay or repair teeth that have been cracked or broken. During a filling procedure, the dentist will remove the damaged or decayed portion of the tooth and then fill the cavity with a filling material. 

At Dr Be Smiles, we use several types of filling materials, including amalgam (silver) fillings, composite (tooth-colored) fillings, ceramic fillings, and gold fillings. The filling material we use will depend on the location and severity of the cavity, as well as the patient's personal preferences. 

What Is a Cavity? 

Cavities form when food particles and bacteria are left on the tooth’s surface, allowing it to collect harmful acids that eat away at the tooth enamel. The sooner cavities are treated, the less likely they are to cause an infection or decay in a larger area. Fillings help treat minor to moderate cases of tooth decay and restore the aesthetics and health of a patient’s smile. 

Our dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth being filled. This will prevent any pain or discomfort during the procedure. Once the area is numb, our dentist will use a drill or laser to remove the decayed part of the tooth. They will then clean the area to remove any remaining debris and bacteria. After cleaning and preparing the area, our dentist will apply the filling material to the tooth.  

Several filling materials are available, including composite resin, porcelain, gold, and silver amalgam. Our dentist will discuss the options with you and recommend the best material based on your needs. Once the filling material is in place, our dentist will shape and polish it to match the natural contours of your tooth. This will ensure a comfortable fit and a natural appearance.
